Questions for Gordon?
No, not the PM, he’s busy enough for the moment I think.
I met a happier Gordon through a bit of volunteering I’ve been doing recently. Gordon is a chirpy 73 year old with a real spring in his step, and I recently found out why. It turns out that he’s spent the majority of his life working in the knitwear industry, mainly as a sock agent! He spent most of his days selling some of the best quality British made socks to some of the largest retailers in the UK and abroad.
Having experienced nearly every job in the sock industry, Gordon finally called it a day about 10 years ago when all but a tiny minority of UK sock manufacturing moved aborad. That said, he still certainly knows a quality pair of dapper socks when he see’s them!
I’m going to try and get a little interview with him so you can all enjoy his passions for socks, and the countless stories he has relating to them. But whatever should I ask this Grand Daddy of the sock industry? Help me out and leave a question or three in the comments section below…
*That’s not Gordon in the photo…but you get the idea, right?
Go on, leave us a comment, or better still leave a question that you’d like me to ask Gordon himself. Just click below…

Question to Gordon.
“What should be the feel of the ultimate sock ?”
“What other uses can the ultimate sock be used for besides putting on your feet?”

Hi Rich - what an amazing opportunity! Stick a pen drive in his ear and see if you can manage a download - miracles can happen!
How about :
“In your experience, what potential lies in the sock industry that has not yet been realised or developed?”
or
“Having experienced almost every role in the sock industry, which one did you perform that had the most influence on the success or failure of the business?” (you never know, it might be all in the big toe! :o>)
or
“If you knew back at the start of your career in the sock industry, what you know now, and had the chance to speak to the most influencial person in the business, what would you advise him?”
Have fun and do let us know!

Does Gordon feel the quality of the product diminished when the knitwear/ textile industry, moved overseas?

Brilliant! Thanks for the questions so far…I’m fairly sure Gordon will be happy to answer them and more : )
What else could we ask the Grand Daddy of the sock industry?

(Oh, and the pen drive idea sounds fun, for me at least…less so for Gordon. Maybe I need to carefully consider whether there’s a more human and low tech way of downloading and saving all his wisdom!)
